would nida core be strong enough for this application? The hatch in question is the fish box hatch in the front of a 20 SF. Is there any insulation properties to this stuff as well? Thanks.

absolutely, stiffness come from the thickness of the core. I would use the 20mm core with a single layer of 1708 over top.

Its decent on R value, but not as good as most foam cores.
