absolutely, stiffness come from the thickness of the core. I would use the 20mm core with a single layer of 1708 over top.

Its decent on R value, but not as good as most foam cores.

lots a stuff you can use as a foam core,nida-core , diviniacell,coosa...this site will have the best.1708 will give it the strength,for a hatch..if you have to bolt or screw thru it,make it tougher than foam..!
