It will do just fine. My 1989 Had a Mercury 200 hp carbed engine and I had plenty of power, although they have like gas, maybe 2 miles per gallon.

I had twin 200 EFI's on my 72 seacraft and just replaced them with a 250 4 stroke. I have enough power, but I cruise at 25 kts burning about 2.2 GPH. Also I have a bracket. my $.02 is that it seems a little on the low side for power, and I would be surprised if you got 2 mpg. Those mercs loved their fuel. At the same time the 89 make is much lighter than my 72, so who knows. Either way, I also had a mako before this thing, and it is night and day. The seacraft is a much bigger and much more confortable boat. I had a 224, which feels like it was 4 feet shorter than my 23 seacraft, and people rant and rave about the ride of the 224, but I'll tell you it can't even be mentioned in the same sentence as the seacraft.

Search for Bigshrimpin's thread on his 23. He has a 200 Merc (EFI I believe) and it performs very well even carrying the extra weight of a Seamark pilothouse.

frankly unless you already own the motor I would look for a 225 Merc or a 250 something, will work much better in a swell or seas

I suspect you meant 2.2 MPG @ cruise.

I really doubt a 200 EFI on a 23 will properly turn any 21p prop.
15 x 17 stern-lifting design is closer to what you'll need to get your target rpms. May even do better with a 15p.
