Re: Mercruiser 120 I/O-- Cam Chain cover question
Bill-- after weighing my options for this problem, I decided to just patch the cover. I found some small pin holes in the upper portion of the cover and covered them w/ some Loctite brand 2-part...

Mercruiser 120 I/O-- Cam Chain cover question
Hi guys, I've got a leak on my cam chain cover. My engine/outdrive is a 120hp MerCruiser Alpha 1, circa 1985. I was wondering if anyone knew if replacing the cover involves removing the oil pan. The...

Re: ADJUSTING TRAILER FOR 23' SF
I agree it is much easier to adjust the trailer w/o the weight of the boat on it. Moving the axles is a pretty easy, straight forward job once everything is in position. If you live near some water,...

Re: 20 sf project boat
I got my Hull (no floor) for free. It came w/ a single axle older galvanized trailer. It is VERY EASY to spend a lot of money fixing any boat, especially if you want to do it "right" and make it...

Re: rub rail installlation
My original rubrail looks like it was held on ABOUT every 7 inches. It varies from 6.5 to 7.5 spacing. I used through-bolts to hold the rubrail itself on (all stainless w/ nyloc nuts). It took a long...

Re: Mercruiser Alpha One repair
Unless you're doing a complete ground up restoration and everything is going to be "perfect," why not use a used powertrain. They really are extremely simple. I had never been into one *at all*...

Re: Mercruiser Alpha One repair
I should have said, if you are crafty and watch the Want-Ad and Craigslist, I think you can score a whole spare outdrive for short money (less than $500). I don't know how much work at the dealer...

Re: Mercruiser Alpha One repair
I think the Alpha-One set up is really simple and the MerCruiser manuals do a very good job of explaining their operation and repair. Why not just do I good once over yourself?
Do an engine tune...

Re: testing pics of project
Just a note for you guys that might be doing this repair work or even just repowering. I upgraded my '72 CC from its original model I/O (I think MerCruiser M/R) to an 2.5l Alpha-One setup. It...

Re: This may be a deal for someone
I got my SeaCraft for free. They don't stay free for very long! Floors, stringers, powertrains, all the little odds and ends, it adds up quick! I've spend hundreds in fasteners alone (all stainless)!...

Re: I cant help but think to myself
I have a '72 20' CC w/ I/O, which I upgraded to an Alpha One engine and outdrive. I like it, still have four stroke reliability, good gas mileage, easy to work on, parts are readily available, etc....

Re: My 20' center console has a new floor + I/O
Thanks for the good words, guys! Maybe I'll have time to take her out for a maiden voyage around Thanksgiving. I wouldn't put any money on it, but I have to be optimistic. I'll be sure to post pics,...

Re: Nearing the end! Concept and Reality!
Nice job! I just replaced the floor on my 20' SC so I know what a chore it can be! I'm in central MA, maybe we can go fishing some time once I get my lower unit all buttoned up. I never liked the...
