Re: Plexi-windshield

Plexi seems to get exponentially harder to bend as thickness increases, especially over 1/4". .... That may be a part of why the estimate was soooooo high....

Acrylics in general are not very...

Re: New 350 HP 4 stroke Yamaha announced

Considering most guys would want twins for anything seriously offshore, the 1600# weight is going to be a tough nut to work with.

They're going to need to offer this beast in a 35" or 40" length...

Re: One Pothole Away From Disaster...............

Did a bit of tidying up on the leaning post installation today, and overall, I'm liking it. .... Will try it out Saturday.

As promised, here's a few pics. ...

Re: 18 SF Repower

Looks like you already did the homework and the 03's will be good ones. Hope the repower works out smoothly for you.

Re: Idea for the For Sale Forum

I liked the checklist a lot.

While sellers may not always want to fill it out completely before posting a boat for sale, encouraging them to fill out as much as possible will surely help them...

Re: One Pothole Away From Disaster...............

I installed the leaning post today as anticipated. ... Wasn't quite as easy as I hoped it would be, but then boat stuff seldom is.

As planned, I attached the teak strips to the leaning post, and...

Re: 18 SF Repower

Before you guys plunk down good money on those Fichts, do some serious homework on that year and model. .... Some seemed to "not quite live up to expectations", while others did.

Generally...

Re: rivet holes

I use the clear "shipping" tape to cover holes and then use thickened epoxy to fill them. Works great!

You don't have to go to the trouble of sticking one smaller piece to a bigger piece. Just...

Re: One Pothole Away From Disaster...............

I didn't buy it from MCL, but I did get the one that you took the last 3 shots of. It's the Neptune Deluxe with backrest made by Taco. I got it from Action Welding, they had good pricing, and it...

One Pothole Away From Disaster...............

As most of you know, the trailer under my SF18 was pretty rough when I got it. The one fender still hanging on didn't even make it 20 minutes drive to my house.

The boat needed a fair amount of...

Re: Bertram site \"tips\"

Hold on guys, you're still 1 boat short.... :D

You guys are leaving out the pure adrenaline rush of a Mirage or STV with a 280 or 300 drag Merc on the back. Imagine the heart pounding terror of...

Re: Repower

I'd at least hang onto it and part it out. A good V6 gearcase will fetch a lot of gas money or new fishing gear.

Re: Repower

Since it generally runs well, I'd be reluctant to write it off too quickly.

Whether it's worth rebuilding depends a lot on how much of the work you can do yourself, as opposed to having a mechanic...

Re: 42 posts today - new record?

Whine, Whine, Whine, ..... It's a balmy 85 here all day long.

Mine 'll be back in the water this weekend, just as soon as I get the new axle I made up under the trailer. I had to make new spring...

Re: My SF 18 ....... Pics at last!

I agree, That "fish box" rates real close to the top of the "useless / nuisance" scale, ..... right up there with mosquitos and cock roaches.

I seriously thought about putting an automatic bilge...

No, That's not actually me in my avatar. I had to find someone that didn't look quite as dumb as me. Strangly enough though, I do wear one of those hats most of the time. ..... Must be all those...

My SF 18 ....... Pics at last!

I finally got around to figuring out how to post pics. With most of my personal time spent working on the boat, it's taken a while.

I haven't gotten pics of what's been done yet, will try to do...

Re: New Member 1977 18' cc bought from orig owner

That's a 20' SC.

If you look at the gallery pics, you can see that the 18' has some distictive differences.

Look along the inside of the fore and aft side panels and the forward storage...

Re: 18 SF Repower

I have a '78 SF18 and it's got a '98 Ocean Pro (evinrude) 150 on it. It's a very sweet combination.

The great aspect of the 150 and 175 V6's were that they were the Eagle Series motors. They were...

Re: Here We Go Again

I think you're finding an issue where none exists.

The increase in pressure from expansion of the air in a bracket from sitting in the sun just isn't that much.

As a corrallary, if you...
